梅伊（Theresa May）早在牛津大學求學時即熱衷政治，曾向好友透露希望未來能出任英國首相，她曾擔任知名的牛津辯論社社長，在牛津保守黨的舞會中，經由碧娜芝．布托（Benazir Bhutto）介紹，結識人生伴侶菲立普（Philip John May），交往3年後，1980年兩人僅23歲即共結連理。
菲立普是名成功的銀行家，他與梅伊結褵36年，深知妻子熱愛政治和她的抱負，始終在幕後給予她全力支持，兩人感情深厚，梅伊確定將出任首相後，菲立普陪著她到國會向保守黨的國會議員發表談話，並親吻梅伊的臉龐，愛意盡現。
59歲的梅伊是獨生女，父親是名牧師，1981年不幸車禍過世，同年母親也因為多發性硬化症往生，梅伊接連遭逢雙親喪生的不幸，她曾在受訪時說，菲立普是陪伴她走出人生谷底的人，一直以來是她最重要的依靠。
極為注重隱私的梅伊最近受訪時透露，她與菲立普曾努力想生小孩，無奈未能成功，這件事對他們兩人都造成影響，尤其看到朋友們的小孩都長大成人不免羨慕，但他們都坦然接受膝下無子的事實，並努力過好兩人世界的人生。
梅伊的穿著保守中有些變化，例如連身的長袖合身洋裝有不對稱的領口，顏色也不執著於灰沉色調，從橘紅、寶藍、草綠到暗紫色，都穿出個人特色，值得一提的是她鍾愛豹紋低跟鞋，還有不少設計別緻的名牌低跟鞋，配上她修長的雙腿，常成為攝影記者捕捉的焦點。
梅伊昨天現身國會，仍穿著鍾愛的豹紋低跟鞋，英國一家知名鞋店得知她熱愛豹紋設計，曾主動送上3雙豹紋鞋。
烹飪是梅伊閒暇時的嗜好，她曾透露收藏100多本食譜，最喜愛的是電視名廚傑米奧利佛（Jamie Oliver），因為他的風格較隨性，不要求素材與配料份量必須絕對精準。
梅伊中產階級的出身背景，幸福的婚姻，一絲不苟的工作態度，都被外界拿來與前首相佘契爾夫人相比，在英國因為公投決定脫離歐盟後政經情勢劇烈震盪的此時，梅伊的鐵娘子行事風格，將有助英國重拾迫切需要的穩定。1050712
